Mesh and Visa Want to Turn Crypto Wallets Into Everyday Payment Tools
A cryptocurrency wallet holding bitcoin or stablecoins might soon work at the same checkout terminal that accepts an ordinary Visa card. On Monday, Mesh announced a partnership with Visa designed to unlock digital asset spending across more than 175 million merchant locations in over 200 countries and territories.
The arrangement promises something cryptocurrency payments have struggled to deliver for years: spending directly from existing wallet balances without opening another account, ordering a dedicated card or manually cashing out beforehand.
No Crypto Card, No New Checkout Equipment
Under the proposed arrangement, Mesh will connect participating cryptocurrency wallets and platforms to payment giant Visa’s infrastructure, allowing customers to tap at contactless terminals or complete online purchases using existing balances. Behind the scenes, a Visa payment credential handles the transaction while Mesh coordinates funding and conversion across supported cryptocurrencies, fiat-pegged stablecoins, and fiat currencies.
Merchants receive conventional payments without installing additional equipment or changing their checkout procedures. “Crypto never had a spending problem—it has a last-mile problem, and until now, closing it meant getting a separate card,” said Mesh CEO and co-founder Bam Azizi.
A $14.2 Trillion Network Meets Digital Wallets
Visa processed $14.2 trillion in payments during fiscal 2025, while cryptocurrency ownership reached an estimated 774 million people worldwide by June 2026, according to research cited in Mesh’s announcement. Yet cryptocurrency card spending reportedly amounted to approximately $1.5 billion monthly in late 2025, a comparatively modest figure compared to conventional payment volumes.
Mesh says more than 200 enterprises already use its network, which connects wallets, exchanges, and financial platforms.
The Missing Piece Is a Launch Date
Visa Global Head of Growth Rubail Birwadker remarked that the collaboration would expand how digital asset balances connect with established payment services. Mesh will manage onboarding and know-your-customer (KYC) procedures, allowing participating platforms to offer payments functionality without operating their own card programs.
However, neither company disclosed initial availability, supported devices, or participating platforms. Those details will arrive as rollout plans are finalized. For now, the partnership promises access to 175 million merchant locations, but consumers still don’t know when their wallets will actually work at checkout.
